JOB SUMMARY:               


As resource expert for a specific service in staff education, maintains and shares knowledge of service equipment and supplies. Oversee patient care planning, evaluation, and improvement of two or more surgical services.


Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies.  Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines




  1. Instructs staff in his/her specialty service
  2. Develops teams of excellence
  3. Assists in staff assignments to ensure competency and skill
  4. Acts as liaison between the physician and staff
  5. Provides in-services in specialty equipment
  6. Assists in evaluation of Surgical staff and student competence through skills check off
  7. Assists the Coordinator in facilitation of the OR schedule as team leader
  8. Oversees departmental staff, non-labor operating and capital equipment associated with services within a service line. 
    • Identifies, retains, and develops qualified staff, providing resources and direction for services. Evaluates performance, making recommendations for personnel actions and motivation of employees to achieve superior performance by personal and professional example.
    • Monitors productive, non-productive time of associated staff to assure educated and trained staff to reflect needs of the service and unit.
    • Recommends and monitors departmental budget.  Ensures appropriate provision and utilization of departmental and service resources.
    • Actively participates in setting, monitoring, and achieving goals for the department developed in accordance with shared governance model.
    • Identifies and initiates performance improvement initiatives to assure safe and quality patient care. 
  9. Performs skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable.
  10. Demonstrates and maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  11. Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and adheres to DeKalb Medical Standards of Behavior.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical


Approximately 25% of Service Coordinator’s time will be devoted to performing responsibilities and tasks as Team Leader, with the remainder to clinical oversight and practice on the services.



Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required:

  • Graduate of BSN program, with additional education preferred
  • Active Georgia RN license
  • CNOR preferred
  • Two to three years’ experience on at least one of the service line specialties required


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skill in clinical perioperative nursing as circulator and/or scrub, first assist, and call capability for at least one of the service line specialties
  • Skill and ability to make recommendations, decisions, solve problems while identifying creative yet realistic alternative plans
  • Provides and exemplifies excellent collaboration, mentoring, and influence skills to associates and potential replacement
  • Demonstrated ability to partner and coordinate with multiple stakeholders and services
  • Strategic thinking and ability to manage, delegate within the details, focusing of identified goals and objectives.
